Magic School Bus Science Club
Kids are curious beings. Science is a perfect way to feed their curiosity. There are endless Science lesson activities that it can be overwhelming deciding what topics to begin with and to find the time to obtain the materials. Thankfully there are learning resources that provide quality content and materials in a convenient way for parents and educators. This year, my kids and I subscribed to the Magic School Bus Science Club. This subscription is an excellent way to bring Science to YOU. You do not have to do any planning, or hunting for ideas and materials. The kits are delivered straight to your door.
It is a 12-month subscription, each month focusing on a different scientific theme. Here are the themes below:
Each kit includes a manual and required materials to conduct seven hands-on experiments.
There may be some additional items needed on your part but are usually commonly found around your households such as water or a bowl. However for the most part, once you pull out the contents, and look over the manual you are set to go. A newsletter is also e-mailed to you prior to the kit arriving so you have an idea of what theme will be arriving and can start preparing.
Each experiment clearly lists the materials, steps, and includes space to record results and conclusions. Fun facts and background information are also added by the Magic School Bus characters on the pages. Therefore if you do not have a background in Science, the Magic School Bus Science club makes it easy to understand and learn enough basic knowledge to jump-start the experiment.
Below are images of my kids doing the experiments for the Lights, Rainbows, and Mirrors kit. Because of this theme, my children (ages 6 and 4) learned about transparency, translucence, and opaqueness.
In separate experiments, they discovered more about reflection from mirrors and did some fun secret codes.
They also looked at shadows, and we paired it with a story called, The Lonely Shadow by Clay Rice. It is always fun using literature to pair with lesson activities.
